This blog seems to have turned from a marriage blog to a "Mamie's current entertainment blog" ... but that's ok, because it makes me feel happy :)
But on the marriage front - I still hate when Thomas goes out of town. I swear I miss him WAY MORE than he misses me, but he promises that is untrue. We're approaching 2 years in a crazy fast kind of way! I really can't believe it ... sometimes it feels like I don't remember any time before him, and other times it seems like we just got married yesterday. I think that is a good thing. It seems like everywhere I look, someone else is pregnant or having a baby. Spoiler alert: We're not pregnant! But it does come up in conversation because of all the offspring production that's been going on ... we've sort of said we'll probably start thinking seriously about it when we're 30 (well, I say that and Thomas kindly just says whenever I'm ready, he's ready since I have to, you know, do all the hard work). Well, Thomas turns 29 this year, so I'm starting to hyperventilate a little that 30 is closer than I thought ... I have so many things I want to do with Thomas and I just don't think I'm ready yet. No shame in that, (there is shame in the fact that I do sometimes consider having a baby because I really want to make the cutest nursery in the world ... I blame Pinterest) but it's like this constant battle inside of me of how to become ready in the countdown to 30. I'm thinking we should push it back to more like 32.
In other news, Thomas and I have started a "Memory Jar" (again, thanks Pinterest). When I saw the idea, I immediately LOVED it!! The concept is that you write down random times and memories throughout the year and for the New Year, you take them all out and read them and remember those good moments from the year past. That was kind of my idea for this blog, so I hope I follow through a little better ;)
Ok, switching gears ... COMPLETELY! Back to the "Mamie Entertainment Blog."
We'll start with Television. I can't believe how much TV I actually watch! It's like my relaxation time when I need to clean the house, I just put on a missed episode of a show (thanks, Hulu) I like and need to catch up on, and TA-DA ... house gets clean, and I get a brain break. I had a break for President's Day and I spent a lot of that time doing tasks I've wanted to complete around the house. And getting addicted to a new show: REVENGE. I literally watched the entire season until the current episode (that'd be 15 episodes ... embarrassing!) I just got sucked in (and coincidentally, my house got cleaner than it's been in a while!) That took up most of my Tues/Wed and Thursday night of last week.
Well, then Thomas went out of town on Thursday, so on Saturday night I was stag. I curled up with some Chinese food, dedicated to clearing the DVR of the weeks worth of backlogged Ellen episodes. I LOOOVE Ellen (I really want to go see her for my 30th birthday ... maybe that should take the place of having a baby ?!?!?). As I was watching Ellen, there were several people that I had to add to my list of celebrities that I really like a lot. Some expected, some very unexpected.
My Celebrity Like List
1. Chris Harrison (yes, the host of the Bachelor) - truth be told, I've always really like Chris Harrison. There is just something about him on the Bach that makes me think he's probably funny and cool. Well, I saw him on Ellen and it's confirmed. I'd like to be friends with him.
2. Blake Shelton & Adam Levine - again, totally random, but this started with me watching the Voice last year. These guys crack me up and I feel strongly that I'd laugh like a fool all the time I was around them.
3. Reese Witherspoon - I've always thought she was cute, and I knew she married Ryan Phillipe in Charleston, so that gives me a bias, but when I saw her on Ellen, I just liked her even more.
4. Taylor Swift - Don't hate!! I love Taylor ... what a positive role model, and even thought she is crazy awkward, I like that she continues to be herself!
5. Zac Effron - I have NEVER liked or cared about Zac Effron at all ... I actually thought he was sort of stupid and probably arrogant, but I saw him on Ellen, and I actually really thought to myself, "He seems like a cool and nice person." Thanks Ellen for changing my opinion! I still don't think I'll like too many of Zac Effron's movies unless something changes.
6. Sophia Vergara - I can't state how much I enjoy the show Modern Family ... and Sophia is one of the big reasons for this. I love to listen to her accent, and good lord, the woman is hot! Well, when I saw her on Ellen, I just thought she was all the more charming ... and so down to earth considering she is about 1 million times better looking than probably any one else in the world. Thomas agrees.
7. Kristen Bell - If ANYONE saw her and the bit about the sloths, you just have to love her. It was so weird, it made me feel like she is normal.
Now on to Movies. Thomas and I had a little Sunday evening date night yesterday and it was glorious ... Mexican, ice cream (waffle cone included) and a movie. Doesn't get much better than that! We saw the movie Acts of Valor. I really should write a separate post on this because it evoked so many feelings, but maybe another time. Although parts of this movie were tough to watch (violence isn't really my thing), I really really liked it. There were moments when I thought, "Hmmm, these main actors are sort of stiff in line delivery," and then I learned that it is because they are real Navy Seals. Wow! I read a Navy Seal book last year, and I have just expanded my respect for them (and of course, military people who sacrifice for us) tremendously. How can they walk into such tense and dangerous situations knowing they may have to die to defend this country? I have to admit, I've never thought about it much, but this movie made it so apparent to me the bravery these people exhibit. And it made me so thankful to have my beloved husband right beside me snuggled up at night. I can't even express the gratitude this movie made me feel toward our country's sacrificers, and the protection I realized I have from our military, but I can't help but think selfishly that I don't ever want that to be Thomas. I always want him right by me. Ok, seriously, go watch this movie and be thankful for your protection and safety.
Last but not least ... Music!! I now have satellite radio in my car, which is pretty neat. I typically listen to a few specific channels, and I've discovered a variety of new songs and/or bands that I enjoy. Let me list them for you (can't resist a good list):
1. "Little Talks" by Of Monsters and Men
2. Green River Ordinance - I can't remember the song I heard, but I just knew I liked the feel of the music, sort of bluegrassy.
3. Anything by Jack Johnson - I've always liked ol' Jack, but the acoustic songs on Coffeehouse channel just make me love him all the more.
4. "Beg Steal or Borrow" by Ray LaMontagne - Like Jack, there's really nothing of his I don't love.
5. "Moves Like Jagger" by Maroon 5 - ok, I lied, XM didn't make me fall in love with this ... I've loved it from the moment I first heard it on the Voice last year ... and then danced to it in Zumba. Guilty!
6. "We Found Love" by Rihanna - I know ... I'm shocked at myself too. But I can't help it, it gets all in my head and now I'm hooked. Gotta roll it at our next living room dance party for 2.
7. "Down in the Valley" by the Head and the Heart. The lyrics to this song and the calm, folksiness just really appeal to me in the mornings.
So this post has gotten so very much longer than I intended, so I'm going to wrap it up. Enjoy each other, enjoy entertainment and enjoy your free life!
