This year I had a particularly fun 5 de mayo, passing the evening with new and old friends. I had a "primera cita" on cinco de mayo ... a first date, which is something that I haven't had in ... let's just chalk it up to a while. And normally I hate first dates with a passion because I think they are overrated, awkward and sucky all around. But to my surprise, I actually had a superfun firstdate/cincodemayo. I mean I got to salsa dance and wear a sombrero... what more could I ask for?? Gracias a cinco de mayo for the good date vibes. It turned out to be not awkward or sucky at all! Plus I got to spend the weekend+ seeing some of my best friends, some of whom are like me last 5 de mayo - graduating (YAY)!
The fabulous sombrero that I got to sport until it got confiscated haha. Thomas borrowed it from somebody for 30 seconds so I could take this picture and then one of the waiters confiscated it .. oops!

Also in honor of the Cinco de Mayo-ness and because Tiffany and Matt are both currently doing this making me want to do it too for fun, I will be compiling a list of my "Top 5" which I will rename "The Cinco." The Cinco are the five people (like off the Friends episode) that you can choose as your people that you would, as Matt put it, "woo" (which I think we all know was not what he meant) regardless of relationship status and without penalties. So, as my last attempt to honor Cinco de Mayo, I will join in the trashy fun.
1) Johnny Depp - hands down. Seriously, the man looks good clean, dirty, wearing makeup, as a pirate and as a scissorhanded freak. And he's mysterious. His only downfall is that he loves France ... now if he loved Spain or South America, he really would be the perfect man.
2) Gael Garcia Bernal - He is my #1 latin lover and I'm pretty sure if he met me, he would agree. He seems supercool and artsy and I like that. I do not penalize Gael for being extremely short, because I am also short so it works well. And I like his movies, although this list should NOT under any circumstances be mistaken for a favorite actors list.
3) Jay Hernandez - Jay is my #2 Latin Lover. He is the yang of Gael ... meaning he's not so much artsy guy as a little more thug/hardcore or something. And I can handle that.
4) Luke Wilson - Two words. Hilarious. Jaw. hahahaha Luke Wilson cracks me up and he has a very nice jawline ... is that weird?
5) Gary Dourdan - I hope I made the right decision here. It was a tough fight for this final cut spot. But ol' Gary has killer eyes and hair ... and skin ... and teeth. But Taye Diggs definitely gave him a run for his money.

Joaquin Phoenix - Love the first name, love the singing, think he's cute ...just couldn't fit him in the Cinco
Mos Def - he mos def is up there ... just not top 5
Cristian de la Fuente - again, hispanic was already well represented ... although his chilean roots give him an edge

This is seriously one of the best posts I've read in like a while. "The Cinco" is a concept that I shall have to try, but not with guys, nor girls--since I pretty much have to toe the line on that one as my wedding day approaches. Plus, congrats on the date. That's pretty rad. I wouldn't be so worried about first dates, as I would be about second ones by the way.
you are a silly girl. i always love reading your writing. nice cinco by the way. i would have to say 4 out of the five are on mine too. johnny depp always will be no matter how creepy he is. though...you already knew that.
