Bienvenidos

Welcome to my humble abode!

My room still pretty much looks dorm roomish because, well, that's the stuff I have ... dorm room stuff. I'm ok with that. Minimal stuff means less junk I can throw all over my floor and therefore less junk I have to pick up. So I'm ok with that.

There's a really big window though so I get a lot of sunlight .... and peeping Toms. juuuuuuuuuust kidding. no peeping toms .. yet.

I like my couches. They were free and then my mom, my grandmother, a sewing machine and I doctored them up. They're quite comfy and if you ever visit the big one folds out into a queen size pullout bed. But I don't have sheets so bring your own.

So after a good week or so of avoiding being in Columbia, I pretty much am here to stay. And guess what, I'm sort of starting to like it. My housemate is really nice to me and we get to laugh a lot, so I'd say that's good news. Also tonight I introduced her to black beans and rice (she had never tried black beans ... what kind of life could she have been leading?!?), my personal recipe of deliciousness, and guess what ... I think we have a convert ... she liked them!! And here she is ... her name is Tiffany and on this particular evening she was turning 22!

I've also survived a week of class, which in summer school world is like a fourth of a semester. I am taking anatomy/physiology of speech mechanisms and intro to language theory and phonetics. Both are pretty interesting. I have my first test tomorrow in anat/phys on the brain. It's not so true that rumor they told you in 2nd grade about your brain getting a new wrinkle every time you learn something. In fact we all have a lot of very similar wrinkles with very specific names that do very specific things. And did you know that if the putamen in the Basal ganglia which is located in your prosencephalon, formerly known as the forebrain, is damaged (usually through a stroke) it can result in what is called Foreign Accent Syndrome. Which pretty much means what it sounds like ... you start speaking with an accent that the people around you consider to be foreign. Maybe one day I'll wake up with a spanish accent .. that'd be cool. And did you know that there is a disorder that causes people to neglect one whole half of the world?? They just don't realize it exists! Isn't that crazy?!? Let me give you an example, in this one case study this lady had a garage with 2 doors (like the swing open kind) and she opened the right one and since she was parked on the left side drove straight into the left door. Then she went to the doctor because she realized there must be something wrong because she didn't even know the left door existed. I MEAN WHAT THA HECK?? yep so that's what I'm learnin. But I can't remember the name of the disorder or what part of the brain has damage to create this disorder which is why I'm going to go study now.

prosencephalon? WTF? I think my prosencephalon has issues. Anyhow. Lots of things. I miss ya Mames, and I'm glad we chatted and repaired things in our little emailingness. I wanna come to Columbia, but I'm taking a summer class too, Slave Narratives (what what!!!), and I'm mucho busy with working full time and trying to hang out with Lauren enough for her to actually want to kiss me. And "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" in friggin Spanish??? That's the coolest friggin thing I've seen in like a hundred years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man. Cool. Very.

Maybe your prosencephalon is a little jarred from the move and you don't know that you're crosseyed now... hope not.
