Summer Update - Halfway (plus some)

Near the beginning of the summer, I set some goals for myself (Type A, anyone?).  And even though it might make me a complete weirdo, I am really glad I did.  When I started this post I was halfway through my summer vacation, and now even a bit past that.  I have done plenty of fun and relaxing, vacationy stuff, so I'm really glad I made this list to help me accomplish some things that I've really had my sights set on during a time when I am really available to focus on them!  So this is the Halfway (Plus Some) update:

1.  Daily Bible Reading - I can't by any means say that I've done this daily, but it is improving.  Our Bible Study has really morphed into this great group of people who are open and honest and truly want to learn and develop their relationships with God. Those people, along with my friend Christina, have really helped and encouraged me to be intentional and passionate about enjoying time spent with God.

2.  Reorganize my Therapy Space - CHECK!  I dove right in one afternoon and got everything in order!  Thinking long term, I'd like to have some shelves and actual storage, but for now everything is at least neat and tidy with the help of a cardboard box turned shelf :)

3. Re-Reorganize the kitchen storage - Well, this isn't completely done, but I've got a start.  We FINALLY put in some pull-out shelves in our biggest bottom storage cabinet.  I can't tell you how annoying it was to have to pull everything out to get to that ONE pot I needed.  Now, I can just roll the shelf out and it really is so helpful.  It keeps me from screaming in the kitchen (so it makes Thomas happy too!).  But I still have lots of other cabinets that could use some organization, so I can't check this one off the list quite yet!  In other good news, I came home from the beach to realize that Thomas had cleaned out the fridge for me ... that has been on my list for months now!  Sweet man!

4.  Do one "Spanish" thing a day - I don't know why I make "daily" goals because they always set me up for failure.  I have not done one Spanish thing a day.  But I have been listening to more Spanish radio ... particularly Spanish CNN via satellite radio.  I rarely watch, read or listen to the news, so it sort of kills 2 birds with 1 stone to get me a little more "into" what is going on in the world AND to practice my Spanish.  And I swear yesterday there was a person speaking that was a Spanish-as-a-second-language-speaker ... and I'm pretty sure her first language was Portuguese ... it was so neat to hear!  I also love Portuguese and wish I was better at it.  (and Italian) ONE DAY!

5.  Do some local outreach - I am so excited and nervous to announce that I am now a Big Sister!  Yesterday I went on my "matchmeet" visit to meet my Little Sister.  It was sort of awkward, and different than I expected, but I feel confident that Jarissa and I found each other for a reason, and I am really looking forward to our first outing next week.   She wants to teach me to throw a football ... HAHA!  I think she has her work cut out for her! This process happened so fast, but I am trusting that the speed was because it was way overdue and that I didn't rush into things.  I get nervous about "buyer's remorse," but Jarissa was really funny and sweet and seemed to be really excited to get some one-on-one attention (her little sister kept trying to butt in when we were talking about things we like and Jarissa told her straight out, "Stop! This is for ME!").
