Read Me

A friend from high school recently asked me to make him a book list because he wants to read more this year (I think he made one of those so-called new year's resolutions). I really really like to make lists so I obliged him this little snippet of my unending knowledge in a categorized list form. Then I thought I'd share it with the 5 or so people who tune into my life web-style for several reasons: 1) There are some good books on this list and you should read them. I am a big fan of reading. 2) I know I'm forgetting some good ones 3) I know there are so many good ones out there that I haven't read ... so now I am taking suggestions from the audience. you.

Political/Cultural: The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini - sooooo good
Spiritual/Scientific Fiction: Angels & Demons by Dan Brown - this is the prequel to Da Vinci Code and it isn't spectacularly written necessarily but it is interesting and suspenseful
Southern: Cold Sassy Tree by Olive Ann Burns - anyone from a small southern town can identify with so many aspects of this book
Spiritual: Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller - really any of his books .... the guy has a good sense of humor
Short Stories: Woman Hollering Creek by Sandra Cisneros - my favorite, as you might remember, is Eleven
Kind of Twisted but Really Funny: How I Paid For College: A Novel of Sex, Theft, Friendship and Musical Theater by Marc Acito - don't judge ... I enjoy a funny book
Autobiographical/Journalistic: Be True to Your School by Bob Green - way before reality shows became "the thing" there was Bob Green
Currently Reading: Life of Pi by Yann Martel

Books I Would Like to Read Sometime:
Motorcycle Diaries by Che Guevara - what can I say ... revolutionaries are hot
Asylum by Patrick McGrath - a good friend said it has a crazy twist ending
The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros - I figure if her short ones are good then her long ones probably are too
Naked by David Sedaris - He's is very funny and the book has been on my shelf for at least 3 years
Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown - So if a prequel comes before and a sequel comes after, would this book just be a quel??
Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel - I started it (in spanish) summer after freshman year and never finished

Ok now it's your turn. GO!
