Jonathan reminded me that in an earlier blog I had promised to put up a list of words I am learning ... so to honor my earlier promise and Jonathan's request ... here they are ...
1) bacán - cool
2) carrete - party
3) carretear - to party
4) abrigado - warm, cozy
5) al tiro - immediately
6) pololo(a) - boyfriend/girlfriend
7) piola - chill, calm
8) cachar - to understand ... see number 30 to see most common use
9) kiltro - street dogs (there are a lot of stray dogs here)
10) chela - beer
11) cero aporte - no help
12) mina - pretty girl
13) mijita rica - hot girl ... these are the things that get yelled at us gringas on
the street
14) guagua - a baby
15) sacar mocos - to pick your nose
16) sacar loros - to pick your nose ... this ones funny bc the literal translation for loros is parrots ... and parrots are really green .. so are boogers ... get it?
17) jarana - party
18) macabeo - whipped (as in by your pololo)
19) subir a la micro - to jump in the conversation
20) estar colgado - to be outside of the conversation
21) aguafiesta - party pooper
22) perno - a dork (like a boring person dork)
23) pavo - a dork (like a stupid person dork)
24) marearse - to be dizzy
25) aranado - always in a bad mood
26) fome - boring
27) lata - boring
28) calzones - panties ... weird huh ... I'll never eat a calzon again in peace.
29) po - tack this on the end of pretty much anything because it doesn't really mean anything ... just do it. Example: ¿Cómo está po? or Sí po or No po ... Fun, huh?
30) -ai - when you conjugate any verb you can use this ending istead of the one you should when talking to a friend ... who knows why Example: ¿Cómo estai po? or ¿Cachai?
WARNING: I am not 100% of the exact translations of the following words other than the fact that probably I wouldn't use them if I were speaking english
chucha - exclamatory word ... ummm other than that I've heard a few
different translations
la raja - descriptive or exclamatory ... can mean wow! or something stronger ... but
like i said I'm not sure really
huevón/hueón - ok if you say this word to a friend like "Cómo estai huevón" it is
like saying "whats up man" BUT if you say it in anger toward
someone it means something stronger ... but which curse word it
should be translated into is still unclear
Most of these are pretty Chilean words so mostly they're just understood in Chile, which is pretty cool. So although my spanish isn't necessarily getting that much better, my Chilean is perfecto, cachai?

you know meg I'm not really sure .. but I've only seen it spelled 2 ways .. 1) bacán and 2) bakán ... but never with a "v" ... so take that angelo!!!
